Terms, Privacy and Cookies Policy

Page updated: December 2017 Version 1.3

We want everyone to enjoy AthisNews (“AN” below). But there are a few rules to stick to. Take a look.

These are the AN’s terms of use. They tell you:

  • The rules for using our services
  • What you can do with our content (share it, link to it, that sort of thing)
  • What we can do with things you post or upload.
Read these terms before using our services. Whenever you use our services you agree to these terms. If you don’t agreed to all these terms then we can suspend or terminate your use of services and your account. Our ‘Services‘ are anything digital offered by the AN. Such as:

  • Websites (like www.athis-consulting.com, www.athis-consulting.com/news/, AN on twitter or Linkedin
  • Apps (on IOS or Android)
  • Podcasts
  • RSS feeds

Our ‘Contents‘ are anything that’s available through those services. Including:

  • Text
  • Audio
  • Video
  • Images
  • Games
  • Software
  • Metadata and open-source code
  • Anything made by people using our services (user-generated content).
You are under our terms when you use someone else’s services or products OR when you use services where we (AN)  tell you they apply.

Terms for using our services and contents

These apply to our services and content, except content that’s made to be shared (such as Share, Embed, RSS, Our social media such Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter…). But it is forbidden to:

  • Hacking our services and content
  • Trying to get around our content security technology
  • Harming or offending other people while using our services or content. That means:
    • Don’t damage our reputation by associating us with sexism or racism, for instance
    • Don’t get us sued – by defaming (damaging the reputation of) someone, say, or commenting on an active lawsuit
    • Don’t harass or upset people
    • Don’t post or upload anything offensive or obscene
    • If you disagree with someone, attack the argument, not the person.
  • Using with care when you watch a video or use our apps, be aware of your surroundings and use your device safely.
    • Are pregnant
    • Have consumed anything that may affect your balance
    • Have (or have had) a medical condition, like binocular vision abnormalities, psychiatric disorders, seizures or a heart problem.
    • Stop immediately if you feel:
      • Sick
      • Eye strain
      • Dizziness
      • Any discomfort.
      • Don’t take part in any activities where you need to focus straight after, or if you feel slightly dazed or confused.
    • Don’t pretend to be AN, except sharing our content.

You need permission for:

  • Whole shows
  • Clips
  • Photos
  • Content not sharable
  • Our logo and other branding
  • All  that’s protected by copyright.

Send us an email to ask a permission if you want! You can:

  •  Use sharing buttons to share a link to our content on your website or social media.
  • Use our player
  • Use a feed including RSS, Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter…
  • Post comments and views…

Your AN Account

You need an account to use some of our services, like personal recommendations and notifications. To keep your account safe, don’t:

  • Tell anyone your username or password
  • Give us false information
  • Try to log in as someone else
  • Try to bypass our security measures
  • Create more than one account
  • Create an account for someone else, except for your child.

And be sure to keep your details up-to-date. The data you send us when you register, fill in web forms or use our services helps us to:

  • Provide you with services, recommendations, notifications and other features
  • Improve our existing services and come up with new ones.

Our non-responsibilities

We’re not responsible for anything that happens if:

  • You rely on advice, data, commentary, opinions or any other content
  • There are errors, omissions, interruptions, delays, bugs or viruses
  • We turn off or remove content, services, external links or creations (we’d normally only do this when we moderate, for legal reasons or if we’re improving a service)
  • The thing that happens couldn’t reasonably have been foreseen
  • The thing that happens wouldn’t usually result from the mishap
  • You and we hadn’t agreed that this thing would probably happen in the event of a mishap.

This applies to sites we link to as well as our content and services. We sometimes link to non-AN sites. And we sometimes put our services on them – when you connect with us on social media, for example:

  • We don’t endorse the sites we link to.
  • We’re not responsible for their content or liable for anything that happens to you if you use them.
  • If you or anyone else shares something containing a link, we’re not responsible for anything on the site it links to.

External sites usually have their own terms of use.

Privacy policies

Our privacy policy tells you:

  • what information we might collect about you
  • how we might use that information
  • when we might use your details to contact you
  • what information of yours we might share with others
  • your choices about the personal information you give us
This policy covers the services that are offered by AN. But only when those services link to this policy or tell you it applies. Our services sometimes link to services run by other companies. Those companies have their own privacy and cookies policies, so remember that the information you give them will follow their rules and not ours. We sometimes offer AN-branded services to other companies. Make sure to check their privacy policy so you know how they will use your information. We’re strongly committed to keeping you and your family’s information safe. And to do this we design our services with your safety in mind. We also have dedicated teams to look after your information security and privacy. Some companies that provide services to us run their services from outside the European Economic Area. We only let that happen if we are satisfied with their levels of security. Keep in mind that when you give us personal information it could be being transferred, stored or processed in a location outside the EEA.

We’ll give details about why we need your personal information and how we’ll use it before you begin, unless it’s obvious. We might ask for your name and contact details, your date of birth or financial details, depending on what you’re doing. If you apply to take part in a programme on politics, for example, we might ask you about your political opinions. This could include information in a creation you share with us such as people’s names that appear in the creation. Device information such as:

  • your computer
  • your mobile
  • your TV
  • your tablet
  • your voice-enabled device

We automatically collect some technical information from these devices and web browsers even when you’re not signed into AN. This might include:

  • IP (internet protocol) address
  • device ID
  • app ID
  • vendor ID

We also collect information on your activities outside the AN when you talk about us such as in your social network when it is public. When you register for a AN account, or update your details or settings we ask for some personal information, like your email address and age. We also collect information about how you use our services, like the articles you read, you write and more. Time of collect:

  • We only hold your information for as long as we do the activities we told you about or have a valid reason to keep it.
  • We think about what type of information it is, the amount collected, how sensitive it might be and any legal requirements.
  • We design our services so that we don’t hold your information any longer than we have to. We may close your AN account if you haven’t used it in the last year.
  • We’ll send you an email to tell you that we plan to do this before we delete anything, so please check to see if we’ve sent you any emails about this.

You can delete your accountYour account information is immediately deleted:

  • We keep a record of how you’ve used our services, but this information can’t be linked back to you
  • we also keep anything you’ve uploaded or commented on

You have the right to:

  • request a copy of your information
  • not let robots make big decisions about you
  • to ask us to correct information that’s wrong, to delete it or to request that we only use it for certain purposes
  • to change your mind, and ask us to stop using your information. For example, unsubscribing from any marketing emails or turning off personalisation

Cookies

Our cookies are datas which are stored in your computer or mobile when you visit a website or app.  When you first visit us, we’ll tell you about our cookies and ask you to agree if we can use them. You can always change your mind by going to your settings. You can turn them off, but not through us. Stopping all cookies might mean you can’t access some BBC services, or that some of them might not work properly for you. Another way to control some tracking is in the settings on your device. We update this policy sometimes. If we make important changes, like how we use your personal information, we’ll let you know. It might be a notice, an email, or a message in your app. If you don’t agree to the changes, then you can always stop using our services, delete your account and stop giving us any more personal information. We’d be sorry to see you go.

What Boards Need to Know About AI

AI is an operating expense, not a capital investment. More than half of technology executives in the 2019 Gartner CIO Survey say they intend to employ AI before the end of 2020, up from 14% today. If you’re moving too slowly, a competitor could use AI to put you out of business. This is about to change, thanks to machine learning and artificial intelligence.
